A short note on choices, responsibility, and staying strong when the road is hard.

There are many ways to live in this world, and it is up to each person to
choose how to live. We cannot predict the future; all that matters is what is
happening right now. Do not be too worried about your choice, because whether
it produces the result you expect will be decided by your effort.

In life, there are many opportunities. There is no such thing as a good or a
wrong choice, because each option leads to a different set of options. The
path you are on is the consequence of a great many decisions.

When you take responsibility for your acts, and face the consequences of your
choices, you are mature. Always be willing to admit and to correct your
mistakes. Remember that you own your life, and that the only way for each of us
to find our own worth is to live it. Let no one direct your life; follow where
your heart leads instead.

Life is not as easy and as bright as it looks in films and novels. Real life is
a mixture of light and dark. Many obstacles stand on the road to the top, and
they serve to discourage us. Do not give up too quickly, because the road to
success is paved with flowers and with hurdles that you must overcome. However
bad things become, stay strong. Behind those difficulties, God has prepared a
gift for us.

On the song by Rodgers and Hammerstein: keep your head up through the storm.

This world is filled with intrinsic risks, including the potential perils of
insecurity. People feel thrilled and inspired when they listen to “You’ll Never
Walk Alone”. When you are going through a storm, keep your head up and do not
be afraid of the dark night ahead. After the storm there is a bright sky and
the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind, through the rain,
through the hopes that have been thrown away. Walk on with hope in your heart,
and you will never walk alone.

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There’s a golden sky

The words are by Oscar Hammerstein II, with music by Richard Rodgers, for the
musical Carousel. The best known recording is by Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Listen to it on YouTube.
